My text portrait was created from a picture my mom or uncle took of my deceased grandpa back in the 90s. There was some shadow within his hair and around the sides of his face so I used my darker fonts to capture that value. By using thin lines, I could create lighter tones within the picture. I really like the bold rhythm below and framing his face, it makes the piece feel whole. Instead of using my darkest value font, I filled the eyes in with black to emphasize them and the frames of his glasses. Overall, I had a lot of frustration but a lot of enjoyment with this project. The overarching contrast behind it all really catches your eye and from far away you can see every little detail.
